How to talk about hypothetical situations in the present?
Use if … + [past simple]/were, … would + to + [infinitive] to talk about something in the present that is impossible because it is not true.
Would shows that you are quite certain about what you would do if not for the circumstances.
For example, a phrase like this:
If I spoke German I would live in Germany.
